What Is the Zero Data Retention (ZDR) Option?
When the ZDR option is enabled for your account, retains your data only long enough to process your request and deliver the result. This means:- Your data is used exclusively to perform the operation you request, such as parsing or extracting a document.
- Your documents and all intermediate processing data are deleted when the operation finishes.
- Results are deleted when you receive them. See Result Retention.
- does not use your data for training or improving our models when ZDR is active.
What Versions of Agentic Document Extraction Support ZDR?

The LandingAI-hosted version of ADE is available in both the US and EU. Users on the Team and Enterprise plans can enable ZDR directly in the user interface.Scope
When ZDR is enabled, our fully managed SaaS offering ensures zero data retention across the entire platform, including all subprocessors. When ZDR is enabled, ZDR is applicable when parsing documents with our Python libraries and when calling the ADE APIs directly. A separate setting controls whether ZDR is applied to the Playground.Result Retention
Results are kept only until you receive them. Specific retention functionality depends on what version of the API you’re using:v2 APIs
Every result from the v2 APIs is deleted as soon as you receive it, no matter how you call the API:v1 APIs
The v1 APIs never hold a result for later pickup:Enable ZDR
Users on the Team and Enterprise plans can enable ZDR in the user interface by following the instructions below:- Log in to https://ade.landing.ai/.
- Go to the Organization Settings page (to navigate there manually, click your profile icon at the bottom left corner of the page and click Organization Settings).
- In the Zero Data Retention box, click Turn It On.
- A pop-up opens. Carefully read the information so that you understand how ZDR works.
- If you want ZDR to also be applied when uploading documents to the Playground, select the Also apply to Playground UI checkbox.
- Click Enable Zero Data Retention.
- The Zero Data Retention box confirms that ZDR is enabled.
- If you need to ensure HIPAA compliance, you must have a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) in place with LandingAI. To initiate the BAA process, submit your request through the form on the Organization Settings page (available after ZDR is enabled).
US users can also enable ZDR when upgrading to a Team plan.
Turn Off ZDR
If you have enabled ZDR and later want to turn it off, contact support@landing.ai.How ZDR Works in an ADE Containerized App in Your VPC
ADE can be deployed within your own Virtual Private Cloud (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). In this deployment, ADE maintains zero data retention because it is on your VPC. In a VPC deployment, LandingAI is not responsible for zero data retention related to your infrastructure or any subprocessors you integrate (e.g., your own LLM API keys). Your organization is responsible for managing these.Using ZDR for Protected Health Information (PHI), Personally Identifiable Information (PII) & HIPAA Compliance
The ZDR option provides the necessary technical safeguards to support customers processing Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in compliance with HIPAA. If you are a covered entity and intend to process PHI or PII with our ADE service, you must:- Enable the Zero Data Retention (ZDR) option.
- Have a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) in place with LandingAI. To initiate the BAA process, submit your request through the form on the Organization Settings page (available after ZDR is enabled).
